PILLOW TALK: WAYS TO TRANSFORM YOUR BEDROOM

Many people think that the most important room in a house is the living room and I get it, this is where you spend your day, chill with your friends and family and of course, welcome your guests. But have you considered how much time you spend in your bedroom if you add sleeping into the equation? A lot! Research has shown that the environment in which you’re sleeping is highly important for your mental as well as physical rest and well being. This is where you start and finish your day, this is where you go to relax and feel comfortable, in short… this is your kingdom.

Finding your perfect flat/room in London can be challenging. Most of the times we settle for something less than what we originally wanted because of our budget, or lack of time.

Here you can find a list of things to take into consideration if you’d like to transform your bedroom and transform it into your own little “paradise”.

The bedroom should reflect your character

Colours play a very important role in our lives, wether we realise it or not. They have the ability to affect our mood and emotions in a way that few things can. There even is a branch of science that is dedicated to how much of an impact colour has to our everyday life; this can be also spotted if we take a minute and think about the colours that brands many choose for their products!

Now that you have realised how important this is to your life, please make sure that you invest some time in choosing your bedroom colours. Try answering questions like; what do I want to feel when I walk into my bedroom? When I wake up in the morning, what is the mood I’d like to be tuned into? If I could interpret my personality in a colour, what would it be? etc.

It ain’t about the money, it’s about the bedsheets!

Up until recently, I was one of those people who buy their bed-sheets from Primark and a firm supporter of the rule: “the cheaper the merrier”!  Don’t get me wrong, Primark has a very beautiful range of sheets, however, have you ever considered that the material our sheets are made of can affect not only our skin but also how and if we rest well. I was left speechless when I found out that Polyester, which is the main material used mostly in low price sheets, is the worst fabric that you could possibly buy. It is made from synthetic polymers which are made from esters of dihydric alcohol and terephthalic acid (I don’t know chemistry, but it does sound bad!). Those type of chemicals are really bad for your skin, as they don’t let it breathe. While I’d still rather spend £100 on a bag and not my sheets, I’d suggest we read the labels carefully (cotton, silk, linen, hemp, wool, cashmere is what you are looking for) and be willing to pay a bit more than £10 for our sheets.  You will feel the difference straight away- I promise!

Mirror- Mirror on the wall

According to the interior designer bible a mirror can be one’s best friend when it comes to decoration ideas. You can use mirror’s to brighten a space or even to decorate your bedroom’s door. Also, a mirror could be used as a window in a windowless room or used to give the perception that a room is bigger than it actually is. However, if you do believe in good/bad energies, you have to be a bit cautious when it comes to where to place your mirror in your bedroom. According to Feng Shui (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_shui) it could disrupt the flow of energy when hung opposite your bed, for example (Obviously, I do believe in energies). So think wisely!

Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that

Have you ever noticed that we always adjust the lighting depending on whether we’d like to relax or not? Apparently, the human brain is sensitive to light. Nice, warm, hidden spot-lights, as well as table lamps and floor lamps (depending on your space) is what I would suggest to help you create the perfect atmosphere. Another option is candles which are known for being comforting and relaxing. There are many places you can find candles, in various sizes and prices with beautiful aromas and designs. You can even use them for special occasions; for those days you just want to hide from the world (we all know what I am talking about) for example! All these tools can transform the ambience of your room to a fairyland when used properly.

Until next time x
