Sofia and Marina met a few years ago in their hometown Veria, Greece. Sofia moved back from Mykonos (where she had been living the past year) and got a job at her mothers tailoring shop which happened to be close to Marinas workplace. That is how they met and became friends almost immediately. What they had in common was their love of fashion, design and bags especially. Every day during their morning coffee they would brain storm and share their ideas with each other. And one day Ilakati workshop was born. Just like that! Ilakati workshop is a fresh talented duet that creates bags mainly and their designs stand out because of their unique style.
They are going to introduce themselves to us today, enjoy…
Who Are You? What Do You Do?
Hi!! We are Marina Zaharioudaki and Sofia Ekmektsi and we are both from Greece. We are two creative and passionate girls with knowledge in design, photography, tailoring and jewellery.
What Inspires you?
What influences us the most is Greek tradition (hopefully you can that clearly in our designs). We get inspired from different parts of our tradition and try to create designs that are modern and fashionable.
What are You Working on at The Moment?
We already have our winter collection out so at the moment we are working on styling accessories and jewellery; some of which will be added to this seasons collection and some to the next.
What Motivates You?
The thing that motivates us is ourselves really, our love for what we do and the need to create and express ourselves.
How would you describe your personal style?
We love controversy and creating the element of surprise. Our latest collection is based on a combination between tradition and modernism, with a bohemian/romantic and rock culture essence every here and there.
Where do You see Your Self in 5 Years?
We see ourselves expanding our workshop and our designs traveling the world.
Do you believe you have a good sense of Style? Any tips for our readers?
Fashion is a form of expression, a way of life. Styling is a perfect way to show the world who you really are. We pay attention to details like colour, cut, and fabric and create a style of our own that makes us feel confident and conformable. That is all that matters really.
Experiment until you find out what clothes flatter your figure and express your personality. After all, a great style is a style that is truly your own!
What Does Ilakati mean?
Ilakati was a tool that people used in ancient Greece to work on fabrics such as wool. We like the name because not only does it remind us of our roots but it also has a sense of DIY just like our designs.
